Jon Salkeld

Jon has recently taken on responsibility for scientific innovations, strategic university & external partnerships for bp. He joined bp in 2011 as the global head of product development for automotive lubricants, before moving to the disruptive innovation group Castrol innoVentures. There he was responsible for developing the ‘Beyond Internal Combustion’ concept, which founded bp’s Advanced Mobility Unit (AMU), for which he served as Technology Director.

Previously, Jon spent 9 years with QinetiQ through its IPO. He successfully led several high-tech divisions, was functional head to 500 technologists across Information Security, before becoming Director of Business Strategy and Technology Management.

Earlier, Jon spent 11 years with ICI in a variety of technology management, strategic, marketing, and business management roles. He also worked with Schlumberger Cambridge Research for 4 years while undertaking his doctorate.

Jon holds a BSc in physics and mathematics from St Andrews, a PhD in electronic & chemical engineering from UMIST, and undertook the advanced industrial marketing programme at INSEAD. He is a Fellow of the IET and has served on many industry panels.
