Corrosion and Degradation

Our Work

The Corrosion and Degradation focus area at ICAM addresses technical challenges relating to degradation processes, such as corrosion and erosion faced by the energy industry.

It is estimated that global annual costs related to corrosion alone are greater than $2.5 trillion (NACE, 2016). Industry still relies heavily on operational experience for corrosion management, with further research into the core processes of corrosion required.

ICAM research is providing a better understanding of the mechanisms of these processes, and even developing new materials and coatings that resist corrosion, hydrogen embrittlement and high temperature hydrogen attack.
