We regularly recruit talented and passionate people to join our team. Positions available cover the central ICAM office at The University of Manchester, along with our partners at Imperial College London, the University of Cambridge and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Posts available include post-doctoral research associate and academic positions as well as project support roles. Recruitment processes are managed by the human resources departments of our respective university partners.
A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the area of micromechanics of high temperature hydrogen attack in carbon steels.
The project involves the investigation of the fundamentals of carbide stability, the kinetics of carbon and hydrogen for methane formation under externally applied stress, and the interaction of hydrogen with the material microstructure at high temperatures.
The aim is to use this information in the development of a micromechanics model that leads to Nelson curves that account for the underlying failure mechanism, microstructural properties of steels, and the effect of the applied stress.
Existing Nelson curves are based on empirical evidence and fail to predict the life of a component exposed to HTHA environment.
Requirements for the position are education and research experience in thermodynamics and mechanics of materials and capabilities in computational modelling.
Interested candidates should submit a letter describing their relevant experience, curriculum vitae, and contact information for 3 references to firstname.lastname@example.org
