Circular Economy and Sustainability

Our Work

To reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions, both the production and consumption of materials must be changed to reduce the demand on the energy system. The increasing global competition for precious metals and other raw materials makes it important to explore more efficient usage of existing resources, and to source alternative materials to those already in use.

The Circular Economy and Sustainability focus area at ICAM is exploring the use of sustainable materials as well as the recyclability, reuse and repurposing of materials. Sustainability will be embedded across other research areas through material end-of-life considerations, the recycling of precious/critical metals for electrodes and batteries, as well as the exploration of new avenues such as bio-derived products.
