Stuart Clarke

Role: Professor of Surface Science, Chemistry Department
Partner: University of Cambridge

Stuart’s research interests cover a wide range of problems in colloid and interface science from adsorption of molecules to solid surfaces from liquids to the structure and behaviour of particles in complex fluids. Stuart contributes to this area by exploiting a range of novel experimental methods, particularly neutron and synchrotron Xray scattering at the world’s premier facilities.

His current projects include studies of mineral surface interactions for geothermal drilling, novel conducting MOFs for use in supercapacitors, heat transfer in battery packs, enhanced additives/surface treatments for energy efficient lubricants and anti-wear formulations, as well as a wide range of other work assessing and developing anti-COVID substrates and supramolecular self-assembly in halogen bonded monolayers.
